Favorite Wallpaper – Modern Farmhouse

Remember when I said I’d never have wallpaper again? Yeah, I shared it here in the “About Me” section of this website. I think I’ve changed my mind. That’s why I’m sharing all my favorite wallpaper today!

When wallpaper started trending again a few years ago, I sent a text to my sister that read, “Can you believe wallpaper is back in style?” She sent back the puking emoji.

When the wallpaper trend began making a comeback, one of my grown daughters texted me a photo of some wallpaper she loved. I sent back a two-word reply, “hate it.”

That prompted a phone call. We couldn’t hash it out over text. She wanted to know why I hated it. I explained the removal process in great dispairing detail.

If you’ve ever had to remove the old-fashioned wallpaper, you know what I mean. It’s almost impossible to remove without damaging the walls. And it takes forever!

Thankfully, today’s wallpaper is not your mama’s wallpaper. Mama, as in me.

Wallpaper Has Come A Long Way

Thankfully, wallpaper has come a long, long way.

I remember when I was going through a Tuscan period of design. Everything was grapes. I stenciled cringeworthy grapes right below the ceiling, all the way around the area above my kitchen cabinets.

Yes, I created a border of purple grapes. Actually, looking back, it wasn’t that bad. It’s just dated.

But wait, there’s more. The grapes circling my kitchen matched the fruity dining room wallpaper. I remember how hard that paper was to remove.

That dining room wall was covered in wallpaper above the wainscotting and even included a wallpaper border. It was so hard to remove, even with a steamer!

Old Wallpaper Vs. New Wallpaper

Design

Wallpaper design has come a long way. Whether you want sophisticated, casual, or playful, there’s a wallpaper for you.

You can find wallpaper that looks like brick, tile, or even shiplap. The sky is the limit when it comes to wallpaper design. You can even find wallpaper that mimics the sky.

Application

Back in the day, wallpaper had to be soaked before applying. Soaking activated the adhesive on the back of the wallpaper.

And most wallpaper installations required a pro. At least for me, it did.

These days, applying wallpaper is a lot easier. There are two major types – peel-and-stick vinyl wallpaper and paste-the-wall.

The peel-and-stick is fairly easy to apply to the wall. It’s also easy to remove.

The paste-the-wall type is a little more labor-intensive but it’s not as hard to remove as the wallpaper of old.

Wallpaper has come a long way, baby.

Use Of Wallpaper In My Powder Room

As you probably know by now, the entire interior of my house will be pure white by Sherwin Williams. It’s white with a slight gray undertone.

I’ve lived through the paint-every-room-in-your-house-a-different-color period and I’m over it. For now.

The slight gray undertone keeps the paint color from being stark white. At least according to Sherwin Williams. It also has a very tiny amount of yellow which helps warm it up without having yellow undertones. I’ll definitely share once the interior of the house is painted.

I had thought about having tile installed behind the powder room vanity because there was a half wall between the vanity and the toilet.

After lots of going back and forth, we decided to do away with that 1/2 wall because it would make the room look smaller.

I don’t want to tile the entire wall that runs behind the vanity and toilet.

So, I’m seriously thinking about adding water-resistant peel-and-stick wallpaper to that one wall – not the entire bathroom. I can’t take an entire room of wallpaper. Baby steps.

Favorite Wallpaper For The Modern Farmhouse

This is the peel-and-stick wallpaper I’m leaning towards today. That could easily change by tomorrow.

The vanity is gray and I want to choose the wallpaper before I pick out the floor tile. I’ll update this later and let you know what I decided to do.

Oh, yeah, when applying wallpaper in a bathroom, make sure you use water-resistant wallpaper. Not all wallpaper is water-resistant.
