But, first . . .  wait for it . . . an update on the new build.

We’re Living In Crazy Times

As I’ve often said, it’s a crazy time to be building a new house. We broke ground on December 7 and we’re now over halfway through September with no end in sight.

Now I know why the framing contractor said, “No one knows the hour or the day” when I asked him to give me an estimate of when the house would be complete.

There have been so many delays because of backorders and a shortage of workers. Remember when we had to find a trim guy because our contractor couldn’t get any of the ones he normally used?

Looking back, I’m thinking I should have self-contracted this bad boy. 🙂 I really think I could do it.

Update On New Build

No one worked on my house last week. It just sat there day after day with absolutely nothing being done. I’m happy to say that I didn’t freak out. Because you know my mantra; All is well!

The trim guy was working on two other houses (yes, he trimmed out two houses in a week and two days!) The siding guys/girls were on another job. The brick mason doesn’t return the general contractor’s calls (according to the GC).

The guys installing the tongue and groove on the porch ceilings worked four hours two weeks ago. We haven’t seen them since. Now the framer is going to have to bring his crew back to finish the work they didn’t do. I need to hurry up and paint those porch ceilings haint blue.

Why All The Delays?

The trim guy explained it like this: He has contractors that hire him to do all their trim work (He’s awesome!!) so when they call, he can’t put them off for long or they will find someone else to do the work.

The same applies to the other subs (aka trades). So they work some here and there and everywhere trying to keep everyone happy.

I’m thrilled that the trim guy did show up one day this week. I met with the cabinet guy again and the brick mason has started building the pillars that will support the porch columns.

I helped the GC measure for the hardwood floors. Actually, I’m doing engineered hardwood. I got a fabulous deal at Carolina Wholesale Floors so I decided to do the entire house (except bathrooms and laundry room).

The flooring I chose is not on their website. If you live near Columbia or Florence, SC, I recommend going to the brick and mortar. They are constantly getting in new products and they have beautiful tile.

I’m not a fan of carpet so I’m thrilled about not having any carpet in the house.

How To Decorate With Vases

I’m in love with all the natural-looking vases that are so trendy right now. I also love that they never really go out of style.

You can use vases the traditional way as a centerpiece on your table or kitchen island. They are also perfect to balance out a console table in your entryway.

Oversized decorative vases can be placed right on the floor.

Add a few stems (real or faux!) or pampas grass and you’ve got a beautiful addition to any space.

It’s hard to pick just one or two vases. You need to check out this beautiful collection of vases!

Always make sure you check the dimensions before ordering online.
