When it comes to outdoor furniture, there are so many styles and price ranges. I’ve linked all of the best modern farmhouse outdoor furniture at the very end of this post.
No matter if you’re more into the farmhouse vibe or lean towards the modern side of things, you have a lot of choices when it comes to outdoor furniture.
My style of decorating gives a wink and a nod toward coastal modern farmhouse decor without falling completely into the ocean/beach theme. I’m not into signs that say “this way to the beach” since the beach is 2 hours away.
With that being said, let’s jump right into outdoor furniture.
Modern Farmhouse Outdoor Furniture Can Be Pricy
The old saying still rings true when it comes to outdoor furniture: You get what you pay for.” Of course, finding a good sale on a quality product is always a good thing.
Don’t be shocked at the prices when you start looking for outdoor furniture.
What Is The Best Material For Outdoor Furniture?
Wood has long been a favorite when it comes to outdoor furniture but all wood is not created equal.
Teak is the best (and my favorite) but it is very pricey. Teak has a high oil content so it naturally repels water and insects. When taken care of properly, teak can last up to 50 years.
Metal is the strongest and most durable material. The drawback to metal is that it heats up in the sun and can be uncomfortable to the touch.
Aluminum is a lightweight but durable metal. It’s water-resistant, low maintenance, and inexpensive. However, because it’s lightweight, it can blow over on a windy day.
Plastic and Resin are moving up in the world of outdoor furniture. These man-made materials are easy to keep clean, are fade-resistant, lightweight, and come in a range of shapes and sizes.
What About Ordering Outdoor Furniture Online?
If you’re like me, you’re ordering everything online these days and it’s perfectly fine to order modern farmhouse outdoor furniture online. Below are some things to think about before ordering.
Measure your space before you buy new outdoor furniture.
Oversized furniture will dominate a small patio but will look wonderful on an oversized deck.
Pay attention to the measurements of the online furniture.
After you measure your outdoor space, remember to look at the measurements of the online furniture.
Is your weather hot and dry or do you live near the coast?
Hot and dry weather can cause wood furniture to split. Frequent moisture can cause furniture to rot.
Is your patio covered or open to the elements?
If your patio is open to the elements, you’ll need furniture that can hold up to the harsh sun and rain.
Metal is usually not affected by the sun. Plastic and rubber are. Think about how the furniture will look in 5 or 10 years.
Read reviews with an open mind.
I always read the bad reviews first and go from there. Watch for a recurring theme when reading reviews. If there are a lot more bad reviews than good, I usually skip that item and keep searching.
I also look for reviews that mention the comfort of the furniture. No matter how pretty an outdoor chair is, if it’s uncomfortable, I take a hard pass.
Best Time To Buy Outdoor Furniture
Start shopping for outdoor furniture towards the end of July and into August. This is when you’ll find all the end-of-season deals.
Don’t forget to check out yard sales and thrift stores for good deals. Sometimes when people move, they had rather get rid of stuff like outdoor furniture.
